What a stormy weekend!

on August 31, 2014

It's been raining constantly since Friday afternoon and there's no sign of it stopping *sigh* We went for a quick drive to the dump this morning and only just made it over the bridge at the bottom of our driveway. Can't quite believe spring is meant to start tomorrow! So over this rain. At least it was the perfect excuse for a lazy weekend... mind you - actually got quite a bit done. Matt finally finished off my book shelf for the lounge so I managed to empty out all the boxes in the guestroom and put things where they belong.

Had a good harvest this weekend, too. Our first brussel sprouts *yummy* What a feast. We're also still living off pumpkins from last year, the freezer is full of corn, zucchini, broccoli and cauliflower. Once this rain is over we can finally get the garden ready for summer. Got lots to do - tomatoes, silverbeet, carrots and more.

An unwanted house guest

on August 30, 2014

Massive spider I found in the hallway tonight. Must have been seeking shelter from the rain. They're normally found in piles of wood - so why didn't it stay in the shed? Sooooo disgusting *yikes*

My little garden

on August 28, 2014

Just a few pictures of my garden where for the first time in my life I am actually growing herbs and vegetables all by myself =D
My coriander tree and some brussels.
Got these lovely fresias given by one of Matt's friends. They are my mom's favourite flowers and smell sooooo beautiful! Too bad she's not here to admire them.
The little glow-in-the-dark Kiwi I got given for my birthday this year by my lovely colleagues is still watching over everything in my garden. He's currently guarding my last broccoli and a mini cauliflower that has finally decided to grow a "fruit".

Wild Pork Challenge

on August 17, 2014

Remember my weekend up north in the Hokianga when Matt had joined the Hokianga Boar Hunt 2014? We'd come back with a wild pork that a neighbor cut up for us and it's since been sitting in the freezer.

This weekend we finally grabbed one bit out - a quarter of a pig. Woah it was MASSIVE! Took 1.5 days to sort of defrost (you don't want to see my kitchen at the moment, still trying to clean up all the blood).

Matt managed to slice it up a bit so it could actually fit in the oven *lol* Started it off on the grill before seasoning it and wrapping it in tin foil. I's been cooking for a few hours and by dinner time should be delicious as. I wish I could describe the smell that's lingering in the air. Mouth-watering! That will keep our tummies busy for a few days I'd say. Anybody wanna come and have a try?

Hide and Seek

One of our rabbits is being really funny today. He's decided to play a game of Hide & Seek. Can you spot him?

What is it with mechanics?

on August 11, 2014

Please excuse the language in this video. It was recorded just after Matt had come home from our mechanic who was meant to put a new radiator in his truck. The last radiator he had put in simply didn't fit. They had to grind out the bonnet, grind along the radiator cap - and it still wouldn't seal properly which left us constantly topping up water too keep the engine cool. I guess you can imagine we weren't all too happy.

So we finally got our mechanic to put a new radiator in - and this is the result! The truck overheated on the way home, there was steam coming out from under the bonnet and anti-freeze hissing out from where the hose connects to the radiator. I'd really like to know what the heck they have been doing?!?!?

Luckily Matt ran into our mechanic on the weekend - after we'd unsuccessfully been trying to get in touch with him. Of course he doesn't work on weekends, but we weren't prepared to pay $100 to have to tow the truck into town. So he actually came out yesterday to have a look. Seems like either they had forgotten to put water into the radiator after installing it or one of the knobs on the radiator was loose. Both I would call wantonly negligent!

Seems to be working fine now. Truck is starting without issues and it's not overheating anymore. So now just praying there hasn't been too much damage done to the head or engine.. I've spent all Saturday researching our rights as customers so if anyone has similar issues with their mechanic I can now probably point you in the right direction...
