A sunny day in Kerikeri

Spent the morning at The Old Packhouse market in Kerikeri, a large selection of local arts and crafts, delicious food, fresh produce and much more. Finished off our visit with a yummy ice cream and coffee (and a free tasting) at Makana Chocolate Factory. What a treat.

Next stop: Waianiwaniwa - Rainbow Falls

They are just on the outskirts of Kerikeri towards Waipapa, an impressive 27m high and easily accessible by foot from the car park.

The walkway at the top leads to a few viewing platforms and gives you access to the river. Don't forget to pack your togs in summer! It's a lovely swimming spot.

The pool below looks stunning, doesn't it?

A steep but easy walking track leads to the basin of the falls. Only takes a few minutes and if you're lucky you can spot tui flying around in the trees above.

The walkway from the falls leads all the way to the Stone House, out next stop (see further below). Takes about 1h and is 4.2km long. Would have loved the hike through the bush, but we didn't have the right footwear.
