Cruising around Lake Wakatipu

Queenstown is situated on the shores of Lake Wakatipu, New Zealand's third biggest lake. It's almost 400m deep at some points and stretches several kilometers along.

Back in 2011 I hopped on board the TSS Earnslaw, an old steam paddle boat that was built in 1912, same year as the Titanic. It still cruises around Lake Wakatipu, but paying $70 seemed a bit much, so we opted for a cruise with Southern Discoveries for only $49 each.

The 90min tour on the Catamaran 'The Spirit of Queenstown' was very enjoyable and the commentary informative and entertaining. We stayed on the upper deck most of the time and caught some marvellous views of The Remarkables and the incredibly turquoise water of the lake.
